Chatterbait Fishing

Featured Replies

I haven't fished chatterbaits at all yet. I would like to try them one one of my next trips to to the lake. How do you work them? Would you put a trailer on them? I only have one. It is a small 1/4 oz black/blue Z-Man chatterbait. Thanks for any help.

Fish'em like you would a spinnerbait or swim jig, in and around the same kind of cover.

I fish them exactly like a swim jig and use the same trailer i would a swim jig. I tend to fish for bigger fish so i use larger trailers like a keitech or a gambler big EZ.

You can put a zoom fluke on the back or a grub. Like others said just fish it like a Spinnerbait but just slowly enough to keep that blade moving you'll feel it with your rod.

Like others have said fish it like a swimjig or spinnerbait. I like A paddle tail or grub. 3" will generally get more bites, 5" will generally get bigger fish. I also throw hollow body frogs with this rod.

I've been crushing it this spring with the Rage Blade.  Craws, grubs, and flukes as trailers have all worked.  I've been sticking to the green pumpkin color and its been producing some good fish.  Like everyone said, if you can feel that blade moving, fish will bite.  Seems I've had a chatterbait or rage blade tied on every outing this spring.

To echo what others have written here, just think of it as a different kind of spinnerbait and throw it around the same kinds of cover.  Color & trailers are a pick 'em.  Whatever your favorite spinner bait colors are, go with those for a chatter bait to start.
