Tips For Transitioning From Centrifugal To Magnetic Brakes?

Featured Replies

I put the Daiwa brake design in a class of its own due to the centrifugally activated inductor. When I think Mag brakes, the Revo type setup comes to mind and Centrifugal drum brakes are what they are for the most part. If you watch the spool as you cast each design with different baits you'll see when in the cast sequence you need to apply some thumb. I'm not sure anyone can tell someone else exactly how to do it.

All my life I've stuck with bait casters with centrifugal brakes.  The few times I've gotten mag controlled reels I've quickly given them up.  I'm trying them again and would like to find more success with them.  I never seemed to get the same amount of control without sacrificing distance.  Any tips on casting style or mag settings?

I don't even try the mag reels anymore. I had a Black Max that worked great, then a 2nd gen SX that I HATED, and Gen 3 SX that worked well for 10 casts then back lashed for no reason. The only mag reels I'd look at would be Daiwas, as they use a different method for their mag systems than Abus do and are actually pretty user friendly. Still, centrifugal reels get my money.

I don't own any mag brake only reels any more. Well except tatulas but those are a class of there own with that breaking system. I also never use spool tension on any of my reels. Like someone said about there reels you could just remove it and it wouldn't matter to me. It's pretty much pointless to me.

Why other reel manufacturers haven't adopted or improved upon the Magforce Z system that Daiwa uses is beyond me.

I really think what diawa has going on right now for a braking system is the best I have ever used. It works so perfectly. If you take your side plate off and look at it or just think about it they totally make perfect sense why it is superior.
