Lake Tillery Nc Bassfishing

Featured Replies

Guys I need help... I would say I'm a little above an intermediate bass fisherman as I can catch fish on just about every single lake, except this one... I have literally tried everything on this lake to no avail. I am seriously lucky if I catch a couple tiny ones in a 6 hour period. I'm honestly frustrated to the max right now because I feel like I'm fishing the right places with the right baits. I am fishing points with crankbaits and jigs, fishing rip rap with the same stuff, in the morning I throw top water around docks but I'm not catching fish! I can provide more detail about the lake if you ask but if anyone can offer any advice that would be greatly appreciated! Oh and by the way, I do own a boat and have two brand new lowrance units on it.

Bite turned off about 2 weeks ago. It was pretty steady one day then nothing, and it's been tough everyday since. We were pulling around 8-10 2lb-4lb fish out of weed beeds, laydowns and docks on jigs, worms, lizards and crankbaits pretty much anywhere from Swift Island to the Norwood end. Then they just stopped. Probably caught maybe 6 LM's and a few White Bass in past two weeks. Even the schoolers are being fickle. I've thrown everything I can think of into the schools, and the trusty Silver Rainbow Super Fluke gets completely ignored. Only ones I've caught were more or less foul hooked when they slapped at it. Not sure I'd call it better luck but we got some brief attention from some small (really small) schoolers at the mouth of the Uwharrie yesterday but nothing to get excited about.

This is a notoriously tough lake to fish. When it's on, it's on, but when it's off it's frigid. I've talked to few people and they seem to have the same results so I don't think it's you. Just gotta keep throwing stuff until they either change their minds or you find something they like. The water is exceptionally clear right now too, so that may have a lot to do with it as well, even at the Uwharrie end it was the clearest I've ever seen it up there with a distinctly visible line where the two bodies of water met.

Something else I've noticed is that while there are plenty schools of shad they are still very small so it may be a few weeks yet before the bigger fish join the fray. Spawn was late this year due to the extended winter and I think most of the fish have just recently come off their beds and are out in deeper water (post-spawn funk maybe).

When it turns back on though it's gonna be fun.
