Black Max-Type Centrifugal Reel?

Featured Replies

Hi Folks,

I'm really not digging this Black Max.  I like it well enough, but its magnetic braking system is something I just can't get used to.  I find this strange because I have a 5600 MagTrax that I like just fine.

Is there another reel, same style and operation as the Black Max, that has centrifugal instead of magnetic braking?

Thank you,

Josh

I'm not sure what a Black Max style and operation means, but the BPS Nitro Tournament Z is nearly identical in shape and how the side plate removes.  The Nitro TZ is also an aluminum framed reel and has an externally adjustable centrifugal brake system.  Normal retail is $100 but they are on sale now for $60.  The BPS Pro Qualifier is also a good choice as it has both centrifugal and magnetic.

Curado I

Not the new abu garcia orra s but the generation before has cent brakes and aluminum frame. I'm sure you could find one cheap on that auction site.

Skeet Reese reel is very similar but with centrifugal brakes. can usually find them cheap just about anywhere.

How do I identify one?  I see one on that auction site that says Orra S30.  Is it a different number after the S?

Thanks!

Anything with a number is going to be a spinning reel. Sent you a pm

Wright and McGill?

Yes thats the company

H2O Xpress Mettle is the same price as a Black Max, has an aluminum frame, lifetime warranty, and centrifugal brakes. The new ones have a small profile like the Black Max' s as well. I have 4 of them. I also just bought a Gen 1 Abu Garcia Orra SX at Academy for $60. I LOVE that reel, because it's nearly the same thing as a Gen 2 Revo S, minus a bearing and the drag system. The mettle will out cast it though.

I have 5 mettles and 3 silver max reels. I like both, but the silver max is my favorite because I like the light feel to it. The mettle is hard to beat for the price though, especially when you can get them for 30 bucks.

I forgot about the mettle, I you live near an academy I suggest that one over all the others.
