Once upon a time my father and I use to make our own baits.  We use to sit together pondering which would be the best  for this or that. Now that I have gotten older and moved away from home, I can't seem to remember what componets where used in making a tandem spinner bait.  I know each blade has to be a different size. But can't recall or seem to find anything on what blade sizes to use for tandems.

It really depends on what you want.  I like to use a big blade, like a size 5 willowleaf on the back, and a size 2 or 3 on the front.  If you order an catalog from Barlow's, Stamina, or Jann's Netcraft, they have blade size diagrams in them to help you out.

You will also need beads and clevises. Blade size will depend on the head size WCCT is right the catalog's have size charts. I like to use a piece of red wire insulation above the lower blade for a little different flash and vibration.

I normally experiment with combinations of different components to find something that truly will catch fish.

I use a (4 and a 3 1/2 blade) 3/8 or 1/2 oz  or (a 3 and a 2 1/2 )for a 3/8 or 1/4 oz

Thanks for the tips.  The other thing that was troublesome for us, was getting the bait to run right using the 1/8th ounce heads.  No matter the gear ratio we threw them on, they always wanted to roll or spin in a circle as we retrieved.  Would blade size and componets have something to do with this or the length of the arm be a factor?

If the bait is flopping around it is because your using a blade that is to big for the bait. The lead head is not heavy enough to make the bait run on a even keel. If the bait moves just a little bit thats ok if you tweaked it just right can be a great fish catcher kinda like a crankbait that searches. Flopping around wildly is a bad thing.
