Attach a transducer to a 1x2 board and clamp the board to the transom with a c-clamp. Get a small rechargeable battery and you're all set.

Has anyone used portable fish finders I have a coleman crawdad and don't feel like trying to attach a transducer to the boat. Any suggestions

I bought the vexilar sonar phone.  It seems pretty good.  You could just tie that off to your boat and trail it.  It was around 140 all together with shipping.

There are several "portable" models.

You may mean the one-piece type that is like sonar on a stick.

It has been discussed on this site many times. It used to be the Bottomline brand and now is the Humminbird brand
