How to apply the top coat?

Featured Replies

I went to Wally World and got a couple of the cheap kids paint brushes from the school supplies section.  I cut the plastic handle in half and use the  non-brush peice to mix the Epoxy, then i put jst enough epoxy on it to cover the lure entirely with a thin to moderate coat.  I found out the hard way, DO NOT PUT THICK COATS ON IT.  It messed up my weighting, and had to dremmel most of it off and start from scratch.

I use cheap plastic brushes purchased at Walmart in the craft depth, they come in a pack of about 30 for a couple bucks. It is not worth the time, effort and solvent to clean epoxy brushes.

Amen to that.

Whittler,Can it hurt the action to dip them.I haven't had a problem with it ,yet.I take a lighter and heat up the tail to help it drip,it also gets the bubbles out.Maybe I should consider brushing.I do waste alot of top coat.

Chris, it probably won't hurt the action but like you say it sure wastes a lot of epoxy. If I'm top-coating 8 baits, say 2\ 12", I use about a teaspoon of epoxy. With E-tex you must mix by volume, so I measure a half tea. each. of resin and hardener, mix and apply. I will usually wait 72 hours and recoat.

A drying wheel will solve a lot of problems.

Thanks Whittler.I saw your drying wheel on the other post.Plan on gettin' a motor and constructing one.
