I'm Torn...

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I am deciding on a new spinning rod and am torn on which one to get:

The

Dobyns Savvy Micro Spinning Rod 6'9" Med Lt

or the 6 foot 9 medium rod.

The medium is rated from 3/16-5/8oz and the medium light is 1/8oz to 1/2oz. The techniques that are recommended for each rod are a hybrid of what i would want to do. For example, i might want to throw a darter head jig but i might also want to throw a senko. Would the heavier powered one be able to throw a light darter head?

Thanks

I think you'd be well served by the 3 power if Senkos are in the mix.

What size darthead do you throw?  The number one spinning rod I use is a 743 in the extreme series.  I use 1/8 oz dartheads with 4.5" worms quite a bit on it.  While I think the 742 would be better for this bait, I have done just fine with the 743, and I feel the 743 is much better with a 5" senko.

What size senko do you throw the most?  Do you like a rod with a more moderate action, something with a lot of backbone?  Personally, I think either rod would work for most weights it's just a preference in my opinion of which characteristics you like best.

I think you'd be well served by the 3 power if Senkos are in the mix.

Id also go with the 693 if your throwing 5 inch senkos.

If your going to be using the rod for dropshot, flickshake, and 4 inch senkos go for the 692. I had the 682 champion and it covered all these techniques perfectly, a 5 inch senko is just starting to push it, the 3 power really works great at that point...
