Recommendations for Airbrush and Compressor

Featured Replies

Does anyone have any recommendations for a beginner for airbrush and compressor?  In doing some research, i like the Badger 155 and Badger 188-11 or T&C Air Star V.  As a beginner, I want something easy to use and clean but not something that I'll want to trade up real soon.  I'm also not very wise as to what to look for in a compressor.  Your wise help is much appreciated!!!

The Badger's are good airbrushes and will most likley work out real well. I use an Iwata HP-C which is a great detail gun and a Paasche VL, which I use mostly to shoot primer or undercoats. As to compressors, I use the compressor in my shop but if you need portability one of the airbrush compressors might be better, they will be quieter.

Whittler, the Paasch that you use is that the one with the open air cup that hangs kinda down and to the front?  If so why do you only use it on primers?

The main reason I just use it for primers is the Iwata is so much better for fine detail that I simply use it for most of my detail and color work.  Paasche VL is a good gun, was my first, but since using the Iwata I find it in my hand a whole lot more. For a first airbrush and for the price the Paasche is a good choice.

I bought my Paashe VL from www.dixieart.com for around $65.  Dixie Art has free shipping with orders over 50 bucks, can't beat that.  I also use the compressor in my shop, but Dixie has them for around $100-150.

Well, gentlemen, I did it.  I got a Badger 155 Anthem and Silentaire Scorpion 2 compressor, createx paints and epoxy.  Wish me luck!  I'll be posting my first results as soon as I have them.
