  1. Anyone needing a fishing partner this weekend, Id love to catch a ride and share gas cost. Im in the Garland area for about another week. I brought most of my fishing gear, just in case I got the chance to fish. I hear Fork is very hot right now. Thanks , Jim
  2. My dad taught me to bass fish mostly on Geist where i caught my first bass on a Rex Spoon fishing he weed beds by the twin islands. Also had yearly trips to Reelfoot that were incredible. My Granddad taught me to pan fish mostly on Morse, Mississinewa, and Monroe. Spent summers on his farm Fishing and bottle hunting, and whatever else we could get into. Those were the best years of my life. What would we all give to have access to all of the fishing knowlege from those teachers that have passed on. For me it would be a lot.
  3. Never leave fish to find fish. I'm a recovering Bankaholic.
  4. Great tutorial, thanks. I didn't know that it was there. I need to look around more often, who knows what I'll find.
  5. What a flop. You were right about the weight, I'm starting over. I'm keeping the first one for a model, the shape is perfect. when working with balsa how do you get the weight centered perfectly, and what type of weight do you use.
  6. Are they new episodes or re-runs. I have about 12 different ones on my DVR but havnt seen a new one for about 6 mo.
  7. I hav a 12lb 5oz so I guess I'm looking for something over 15 to put in the tank at BPS in Nashville. Don't know what the Tenn record is I'll have to look that up tonight. I'm also in search of a punkinseed over 5oz that is the Tenn record for that species and I'm sure I had one bigger than that last year on Old Hickory. I threw it back without even knowing about the record. I remember thinking what a huge punkinseed, but I dont pan fish that much anymore so I didnt think much more about it till i saw the record in the book. I bet I could put that in the tank at BPS also.
  8. I was a littke concerned about the weight thing I'm guessing I can drill & fill with lead If my wire frame doesnt get in the way.
  9. Whittler, I did put about 4 coats of sanding sealer on it and sanded after each to try to get it smooth, but there were flaws that I didnt see. the plastic wood seemed to work fine, the small amounts I put on were only about half the thickness of a straight pin and less than an 1/8 long. My main concern was creating heavy spots that would give it an uneven keel. I'll probably try to finish it this weekend, and post pics on Mon.
  10. The ommeter idea is a great one. It looks like Bagley pumps in a ton of epoxy around the hook eye. Bagley cranks have always been a go to bait for me. I shot a base coat of white like you said and I didn't realize how many very small flaws there were in the balsa. I'm planning on using some plastic wood material to get the lure smooth is that ok?
  11. Thanks a bunch, Really nice web site. Do you use internal wire frames?
  12. I really like the look of the Crank under your name, I'm guessing thats one you made? I espically like the way the back gets really slinder. Where do you get the Bill material, are thay pre cut or do you shape them yourself? One more, I have in the past used an old onion sack to get that scale pattern, Do you do something like that or buy something that aids in putting that pattern on? Sorry to keep bugging you but I can see that you are a wealth of Knowledge. Thanks, Jim P.S. I bought some 30 min Epoxy at Hobby Lobby I thought it was a good deal 9 bucks for an 8 oz kit. Ever use any of that stuff or do you prepfer the Devcon?
  13. Whittler, the Paasch that you use is that the one with the open air cup that hangs kinda down and to the front? If so why do you only use it on primers?
  14. Whittler, I used no weight, no rattles, and no lip. My thought pattern is that's been done to death. I wanted to do something a little different than what you can buy off the shelf. the best way to describe it is its a fat belly, lipless, floating lure. with 2 trebbles. I loved the look of the old Punkinseed lures from Heddon, their a work of art. Wish I could afford to buy a few. Don't know if you have seen the prices their getting for them on e-bay, but it's unbelievable.
  15. Thanks Whittler, This being my first it's kind of like my baby. I did design an internal wireform for it and sandwiched it between 2 peices of balsa. I have really high hopes, I'll post som picks when its done.
  16. Made my first crankbait body out of balsa, and was wondreing what to paint it with to make it look like a store bought. I'm going to put on a sanding sealer first, then I thought I would airbrush with an enamal like Testors from the hobby shop. then I thought I would put on a tough clearcoat. Anyone have any experience doing this? Brand names would be helpful. Thanks Jim
  17. Just had to jump in here. This is the best thread EVER!!! I've never laughed this much reading on line. PLEASE!!! nobody tell KVD that spinnerbaits don't catch bass. He'll be devistated. :'( And yes I am one of the lucky ones that have caught fish on a spinnerbait, but I have spent days without so much as a bump, but that's because some days I stink at locating fish. I'd bet that some days everyone here stinks at locating fish. Here's a thought, try a search bait like O say a spinnerbait. You can fish them fast, you can fish them slow, in open water, and up in the trash, you can fish them in the trees, try them try them Sam you'll see. ;D The versitility of a spinner bait is un-matched IMO.
  18. This could be fun. Anyone else up for some Robo Bow Fishing? I always carry my bow with me all set up for fishing.
  19. Hey RealMech, Have I already asked you if you know where I can get Fenwick blanks? They told me at Fenwick that they don't sell blanks anymore.
  20. This will sound crazy to some but a spit motor from an old barbacue grill works great.
  21. Not sure about a cover but maybe get an auto float switch for the bilge pump. that way you would at least not have to worry about going out to turn it on and off.
  22. I never had a problen until I started pitching and flipping heavily, but I feel your pain :'(
  23. I would say buy as much as you can afford. More room is always nice.
  24. As for Geeky side-kicks ( Kernan - Kumar) no offense if you guys are reading, but think what it would be like if there were 2 guys that were the aces. It takes chemestry to make it work. Someone setting them up and someone knocking them down. I think they try to add an average anglers perspective to both shows, which is what many of us are. if you listen closely they raise questions and the other host answers. I do agree with whoever said that a bad fishing show is still better than most of the other junk on TV. Bring them all back ESPN !!!!!!!
