I got my package with a couple bags of those classic ribbontail worms. I remember when the senko craze really broke out in the mid 00's. I started using senkos and knockoffs and got away from the old ribbontail worm. I haven't used the worm since then- till this year. I broke out an old pack of FLW curly tails on a new lake, and started catching bass. My new ribbontails are 7'' grape, and 10" black/blue. I know how to fish worms but i would like to hear how you fish ribbontails; do you use a weight? Is it okay to use ewg hooks? 

Yes you do generally trig them, I used lead for years, but have used tungston slip sinkers since 98? I don't need a EWG, for a worm like that, just a round bend z bend in the appropriate size as in 3/0 to 7/0 ... 1/0 to 2/0 on 3" to 5" offset shank also as owner calls them, straight shank hooks as well... I will use a EWG where I need to as in swimbaits or just really thicker plastics, just not on a ribbon tale...

Texas rig, usually w/ a 1/4oz weight. Rage Tail Recon is my favorite worm and I use an EWG for that. If I don't need to use an EWG hook I try not to, but is it wrong, I don't think so.

They don't even make the flw worms anymore. I've caught lots of fish on those

I use EWG hooks for ribbon-tails because the worm lays straighter than on regular off-set hooks. I usually use a weight from 1/8-5/16 oz. I cast it out, let it sit for 10 seconds and then shake the worm a litte bit. After that I start a slow stop-and-go retrieve, with periodic shaking-in-place.

My favorite worm is a Culprit 10" ribbon-tail.

Zoom Mag II , 4/0 offset round bend Gama hook , a 3/16th oz. tungston bullet weight  - then what Jar11591 said .

I still will take a Berkley Power Worm in 7.5" or 10" in black with blue flake or watermelon red flake....any summer day with blue skies I love a BLue Saphire or Cotton Candy color and Culprit, Charlies, and the BPS Triple Ripple tails are all good options and if not sure what color to use.....Black or Grape and go with as light a weight as possible. I also find that swimming is not the best method for me, although I like to split shot a ribbon tail and use the lift and drop approach similar to fishing a senko....

 

If I want a swimming worm, I either throw a zoom speed worm, or a swimbait like the gambler big ez, kalins sizmic shad, or anything that matches the size of the forrage and in same color...Carry Greens in summer, and worms with alot of silver and gold flake....

I use EWGs on my ribbon tails as well, with a 1/8oz or 3/16oz bullet weight. I really like them on a 1/4oz shakey head though. My ribbon tail of choice is the Yum F2 in black with red flake.
