Quick Question/patterning Buckshot

Featured Replies

This weekend Im gonna try to get out and pattern my shotgun with some buckshot for hunting. When it comes to patterning shells, would shooting from the ground, and shooting from my treestand give me roughly the same results or would they differ?

It's going to depend on how high you are and how close the animal is, defining the angle at which you are shooting.

I don't think it matters as much for actually patterning the shotgun. As long as you know where it's hitting, you can adjust your shot accordingly when it counts.

For the same of patterning, on the ground or in the stand shouldn't make much difference. That being said, a few practice shots from the stand would help you figure out the best point of aim to use for shots at different yardages.

I always start at the bench, then to the ground simulation of sitting at the base of a tree... Both for slug, and for turkey... I would always spend a fair amount of time, varying my distance and counting my shot on target in the kill zone and close to.... A pattern is good to know, never hunted deer with 00 so... Shooting a slug/ scope combo... I aim the same if in a tree or on the ground... I would always shoot standing as well it's punishing shooting 2 3/4 to 3 1/2 magnums but when you put the time and work in, like most things... You're going to know and be ready!
