I followed your diagrams and made some nice baits as well. I used tin snips to cut the blades and a dremel to drill the holes. The baits run exactly like the original Chatter Bait. Nice job, thanks for sharing.

Sorta looks like you put a little radius on the end in your finished photo!?!?!? Am I just seeing things?

Yes, the blade has a little bend at the top 1/4.

I think it would be easier to have an actual to scale size, then we can print the picture, and trace onto the sheetmetal. I don't have alot of powertools, what did you cut the sheetmetal with?

I can provide my email address, if you would be so kind to send me an actual scale blade template.

Thanks

How did you hook the blade to the eye of the jig. i didnt know if you used a split ring or not. I got my blades made the diagram was big help thanks alot

BD...Sorry, I don't have a drawing that will print actual size. You could make a template out of poster board to trace around. Just use the dimensions from the drawing. I cut the blades with tin snips.

Hawghauler, I used a #1 stainless steel split ring. I've found from experimenting that if you get to much roller over (blade gets caught up and the bait won't vibrate) from the blade that drilling the bottom hole out to 3/32 helps.

appreciate the info. I was looking at the original rad bait and thier blade is hooked straight to the eye of the jig without using a split ring. I didnt know if that would make a difference or not. I have plenty of old jigs i could use and really didn't want to get into pouring jig heads at this time. Again thanks for the info i will give that a try.

You can get jig heads with the opening in the eye, for attaching the blade directly to the head.. I cant remember off the top of my head were I seen them though.. :-/

Another tip for making the blades.. If you use the blade decals, take and clean off your sheet metal (blade material) with some alcohol, then stick the blade decals on it, in rows, and use those as a template.. Then use the tin snips or whatever, and cut the blade out around the decal.. :)
