New tackle store
Us Ohio boys have a web site called ohiogamefishing.com. One of the sponsors is a fairly new tackle shop. The showroom is an awesome place for bass fishermen. The selection blows BPS and Cabels away. I've never seen so much stuff in one place. So what am I getting at? This place is doing an excellent service to the surrounding fishing community and I sure would like to see him stay around. The store is online so check it out at www.another site.com Thanks

Problems with BassPro.Com?
I totally agree. Bass Pro is ridiculous! From 05' thru mid 06' I spent nearly $3000 at BPS. My last few orders took way to long to get. I have since ordered exclusively from Cabela's because their shipping is excellent.

Chatterbait observation
I like to use a Fluke on mine also. Making chatterbaits helped to pass the time during the long winter. Here is a pic of my favorite custom made chatter style bait. I trim the fluke a little to the bait a better over all look.

This guy makes some really nice custom skirts! www.bassbaits.net/skirts/skirts.htm I love the baby bass!

Indiana/Ohio fishing... stinks?
I'm from Ohio and I think the fishing here stinks too. I've been skunked the last 6 times out in a month and a half. Fishing was best back in June. The best I've done is 4 keepers in an 8 hour day. Much like you I fished as a kid (worm and bobber) and had no desire to as an adult. During the spring of 05' my son wanted to fish a friend's private pond so I took him. After a couple hours and a few bluegill my friend came out and showed us how to throw a Rapala original. We both caught bass and I was hooked. I spent a lot of time reading everything I could get my hands on about bass fishing and fishing the banks of local lakes the remainder of the year. In early spring 06' I bought a boat. The white bass are a blast in May. I realize that much of my frustration is because of inexperience. I've talked to many local anglers and they have had tough times this year too. When you get on forums like this and read about guys catching 20 or 30 bass in an outing then I have to believe that fishing in Ohio just plain stinks.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you very much for the replies! I very much appreciate the help. My wife gets on my case asking me "fishing is supposed to be fun so why are you always so stressed out about it?". I guess that's just the way I am. I read everything I get my hands on about bass fishing but often find it hard to apply what I've read on the water. I suppose with time on the water it will come. Thanks again! You guys are great! ouachitabassangler, I'm impressed! I never mentioned the name of the lake. Not that I was hiding it. I just didn't think anyone here would know this little lake in Ohio. As for my sonar....I have a hard time figuring out where things on the screen are in relationship to me and differentiating bottom composition. cart7 and flechero, Thanks for taking the time to mark the map for me! I'll be trying those spots soon. basswest1, You're right about the vegetation....it's sparse. The fish I have caught were on or close to wood.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
After reading some post I'm starting think I'm a bass fishing misfit. :-[ I can't imagine catching double digits in one outing. My best day was 4 bass. I have spent many 8 or more hour days on my local lake only to get skunked. I fish an 1800 acre reservoir max depth is about 30'. The water is stained/muddy. Visibility is 3' or less at best. Surface temp was 77-84 yesterday. Most shore lines have a lot of limestone. I just got my first boat in February and I'm still trying to understand reading the depth finder (Humminbird 565). I've tried graphing the creek channel with no luck. Lately I haven't even marked any fish. I've caught fish on spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, shakey head worm, weightless Yamamoto senkos and kreatures. I tried cranks, lipless cranks, t-rigged worms, c-rig, soft and hard jerk baits. I enjoy just getting out to fish but it's starting to get really frustrating. I've attached a map and marked the spots and the numbers caught at each spot. Any help would be DEEPLY appreciated.

To much forage?!
Is it possible that bass are not biting because there is simply too much to eat available to them? I spent 8 hours on a local lake Saturday and caught 1 small bass. All day long I could see schools of 2" shad swimming on the surface. I lost count at well over 50 schools. There must have been thousands of shad. It looked like the water was swirling from the wind but there was no wind.

Bass Insider Membership
I did the 30 day free trial. I didn't think it was worth the money so I cancelled it. I agree with basspro48. Most of the stuff used to be available for free.

Make your own swim blades.
BD...Sorry, I don't have a drawing that will print actual size. You could make a template out of poster board to trace around. Just use the dimensions from the drawing. I cut the blades with tin snips. Hawghauler, I used a #1 stainless steel split ring. I've found from experimenting that if you get to much roller over (blade gets caught up and the bait won't vibrate) from the blade that drilling the bottom hole out to 3/32 helps.

Yes, the blade has a little bend at the top 1/4.
