I own a G. Loomis GL3, St. Croix Premier, St. Croix Rage, and some other rods. I bought 4 of the Cabelas Tournament ZX rods (2 spinning, 2 casting) and they are my favorite rods now. Well thought out, light weight, great grips, and seem to weigh a weight class down from their actual weight.

They won the Outdoor Life's Editor's Choice award this year. They are a great rod for $100 and an amazing rod for $69. If you're looking for a casting or spinning rod, this is the one I'd get. I've got 2 of their spinning dropshot rods and 2 of their topwater frog rods.

Here's the review I did on them.

I'm seriously considering a couple models for my new found pursuit of finesse baitcasters.  I have looked at them before, definite bargain at $69!

These rods are amazing man. Try one. You won't be disappointed. Especially for $69.

I bought 2 of the Drop shot spinning rods and thought I didn't like it at first. I took it back to Cabelas and they exchanged it no problem for another Tournament ZX spinning rod but the Shakey Head model. I didn't like that as much and took it back to Cabelas and once again switched it out, this time back to the Drop Shot rod which I'm really happy with now. Cabelas didn't need to exchange those rods for me but the did no questions asked. That's awesome customer service and why Cabelas has a customer for life on me.

Who makes that rod?

It sorta resembles a *** imo

An employee told me that just a Japanese company makes them while Daiwa and Plueger make their reels.

He's also the one who told me that *** rods will be carried by Cabelas now.

How is the 7'1 medium cranking rod? Is it moderate enough to allow them to take the cranks nicely? Is the rod forgiving when fighting fish?

Not sure, I don't have that one. But when I read their review on their website I think one guy got that rod and loved it.
