Veritas Winch Or Bps Cranking' Stick

Featured Replies

I have the winch and like it.  I haven't used the BPS rod but have heard they are pretty decent.  I don't think you can go wrong either way.  I think you can catch the BPS rod on sale for under 70 bucks if you are patient

I have a 7' MH and a 7'6 MH BPS crankin stick that I use. They're both decent rods for the money. They're fairly light for a crankbait rod and just enough sensitivity for a CB rod. The only drawback, for me anyway, was that the "power hump" handle took some getting used to initially. After a few outings I got used to it though. Oh, and they look pretty old fashioned but looks don't really matter to me. Having never used the Veritas Winch, I can't provide a comparative opinion, but either of those two will be decent sticks at that price point.

The veritas winch is lighter but more prone to breaking. Both are good choices though. I have three BPS cranking sticks (7' m, 7' mh, and 7'10" mh) and they are great rods, sensitive, flexible, and strong.

While the Winches are light, I found them to be too whippy for me. But I fish a lot of grass, and prefer a rod that is a little stiffer to get a clean "rip". The Winches do/did not do that well enough for me. Around rock/wood, etc...they are fine.

Do they still make the 7' Medium? I say this because I was on the BPS website and they only had a med-lt and a MH listed for 7'.

Tight lines,
