Senko Bite

Featured Replies

Usually I would wait to feel the weight of the fish or see the line move before I reeled the slack and set the hook.  This year I've noticed a lot of fish just lightly pecking then nothing.  Now I suppose it could be smaller fish just pecking, but it seems like it's tougher to catch fish on senkos this year.  Usually they would always come back to it, but now they move on.  Are the fish just getting used to seeing senkos. My question is do you guys set the hook as soon as you feel a tap or do you wait?

As soon as I feel a tap, see my line jump/twitch or I notice anything else irregular, I will reel up the slack until I can feel the weight of the fish (careful not to pull the fish at all, as this can result in it feeling extra weight and spitting it out) and then give a stern hookset. Hope that helps.

As soon as I feel anything. Also the hook set on a weightless senko is a pull and reel quickly.

As one of the fogs said on here recently: First tap is the fish taking in your lure.  Second tap is the fish spitting out your lure.  Third tap is him tapping you on the shoulder asking why you didn't set the hook.

sorry I can't attribute properly...crs.....but I'd like to because it's one of those things from BR that really stuck with me :)

Bass wont nip at a Stick bait. Bluegill usually be rapid fire tapping and they will sometimes almost take the rod out of your hands.

I do as jar does and let them take it a few secs, then slowly reel down on them till you feel the fish. I set hard. No need to set quickly on a stick IME

If you are experiencing a lot of pecking, it's probably more than likely to be bluegill. If a bass takes a Senko.....it's been took....period. No need to wait or think about what it is.
