I would like everyone's methods of fishing this specific weed type. Please no post regarding what you have read or anything off topic. Include success rate as well as tackle used to fish around pennywort.

Punch, punch, punch. Did I mention punching? Sounds like someone has been spending time on the Delta. There are really only two ways to attack pennywart. You can throw cranks, senkos, chatterbaits etc...and parallel the outside or you can punch. Getting fish out of this stuff can be tough and takes some practice. In many cases you have to go in with the boat and get them. Some days will go your way and some will make you want to pull your hair out. I try to go as light as I can as far as weight goes in many cases thats 1.5 oz . I snell a straight shank hook and tend to stick with beaver style baits. You can use a punch skirt if you like but I dont know if it really matters. Fish tend to eat the bait pretty fast. Be ready for the bite at all times. They don't always slam it. In many cases things just don't feel right and learning to read the bite takes time. I use Bubs punch rod paired with a  shimano castaic and 65lb braid. 

I live in northern cali. Clear lake, oroville and delta. The main weeds here are pennywort and tulles. I always fish the edges of the pennywort but have been thinking I should be punching.

You should be punching

Take a look at Millers punch weights, goes through pennywart easily without bombing it. . Paint the brass weight black Testors enamel, or the new black smaller tungsten (pricey) Miller weights.

I believe the areas he's talking about are below Lake oroville and some small lakes/ ponds in the area.

Could'nt have put it better on the punchin' idea, but another you might want to try is a pitch and twich method. Instead of using a 1 1/2 oz bullett weight, I use a 1/1/2 oz. jig or just the jig head with either a beever or rage tail.

The pitch and twich method is nothing than pitching it into any thick matted grass and twiching your rod untill the jig goes thru. It works very well on the delta, Clear lake, and any waters that have the weed/ grass problem.

Less cost, same action, did I mention COST LESS?
