i have bought a ton of spinnerbaits from a brand called "wahoo spinnerbaits." they are kind of... blah, however. so, i have a ton of paints that i could paint on the silicone/lead/spinner to make it more unique. would enamel paint or clay paint work better? also, for you spinnerbait guru's, is 3/8 oz spinnerbaits too big? cuz ive never caught one on that size before.

I dont have an answer for your paint question, but 3/8 should be fine. Just keep trying, and you will get 'em.

I don't know iff you'll be able to paint the silicone...might be able to dye it with rit-dye

Stern is right.  Spike-it or some other dye will change the color of the silicone.  Besides that, you could try laying a soft plastic lure with the color you want on the silcone and in the heat and hope the colors bleed (but I doubt they will).  

As for the head, just about any paint should be good as long as you cover it with a coating of Devcon 2-ton epoxy or some other clearcoat.

You can also buy a Blade dip that changes the colors of the blade.  I think you would get the most bang out of your buck doing the first two though.

so, enamel paint wont work for the blade? i just want to add a little red so that in the sun it looks like bleeding in the water.

I shouldn't see why not.  Like I said, you may want to epoxy over it.  It will chip off during use.

awesome, thanks! one more question: is it good to use rubber trailers on spinnerbaits?

Soft plastic?  Heck yeah!

I'd use a grub, paca craw, split tail.  You could even split a senko or use it straight.  Just keep in mind that short striking fish may miss because of it.  So use a trailer hook.

how do you use a trailer hook? that has been my worst problem with spinnerbaits. is i can hook em, but they dont stay on or they get missed.

Bait shops sell them in kits.  Basically, the hooks have larger eyes and slip down over the primary hook.  There is also a length of tubing in the package.  Slide it down the primary hook after you put the trailer hook on.  It will keep it from coming back off.

alright, thanks! i REALLY appreciate all of your help. im going fishing for 8 days starting on friday, and i've just painted the spinnerbait blades. one is a red line down the middle of each side of the blade, and the other is a Z kind of design on each side of the blade. ill probably paint some more blades if they work while camping. thanks again. i know a little shop in the place i go to that should sell trailer hooks.

sorry... ONE last question. i am using a 1/4 oz. white and chartruese spinnerbait with a single colorado blade with the red Z design on it. i have a red split tail that is pretty small. should it go on the trailer hook or the main hook, or should i use a bigger trailer? or what? im confuzzled.

Hmmm....you may want to experiment a bit.  I guess I would put it on the main hook and then add the trailer hook.  

The only problem with that is that you are going to kill some of the trailer action and you may end up hooking your trailer with the trailer hook.  

Try that and if that doesn't work for you then just experiment a bit.
