There are only two places to go on KY lake in July. In the morning and evenings, back in the bays and hit the weeds with a frog. In between you most likely will be jigging, c-rigging or cranking ledges. J

Two funny stories. 1. My only semi-steady fishing partner swears that he and his buddies used to play deer tag in the Eastern KY hills. They supposedly would take shipping labels that are used in mfg. They would camo up and stand behind trees near deer trails. When the deer came by, they'd SLAP the label on its *** and run like hell. He is a lying SOB though. 2. There was an older guy arrested at a lake south of Louisville a few years ago. If I remember correctly he was accused of animal cruelty. He was using a heavy action spinning rod and reel, mono with a leader, a small treble hook. He would smear crunchy peanut butter on the hook and catch the squirrels in that park. Now, I don't condone animal cruelty but the thought of a fox squirrel stripping a drag still makes me laugh to this day. J

There is a sign, it is in the woods. However it notes the KY/TN line not where your KY fishing license is no longer valid. As SIND said, the 79 bridge is the end of the reciprocal agreement. It is quite clear when you pass that. On a sidenote, the 68/80 bridge in KY is the end of the reciprocal agreement going north. J

Maybe an hour to Cave Run. You may not find a bass guide there but you sure will find some for Musky. Nice bass in the lake though. I saw pics of an 8 that got pulled out of there this spring. J

I read that article too and it is just a pipe dream. No one seems to remember that just after 9/11, gas prices rose dramatically in only one day. Oil prices fell soon after but gas prices never relented. Goverment Subsidies will continue in China and India as long as there is growth to be had. They may not subsidize as much but make no mistake it will continue. Even if (and its a big if) the oil bubble bursts, it will only be an illusion. The peak has been breached. There is nothing at this point that will put more oil in the ground. The remaining oil is less and hard to get out. J

I absolutely agree with and not trying to be rude, but you use the phrase "one of our ledges". I just don't want to give this guy false hope of finding a ledge right off the bat. I spent two years living 15 minutes from the Lake and it took me a while to find good ledges. This guy is coming from IN and I wouldn't want him to spend his tournament days zig-zagging ledges trying to find one. You have the key part of the equation, you know where the good ledges are. J

First off, he did, just after 9/11 and about once a year after that, he tries to convince everyone but hey I'm not going to make this political. Lets just say that not everyone agrees. Despite what everyone thinks, the president is not all powerful. When something bad happens, the president is the scapegoat. When something good happens, we pat everyone on the back and call it partisan teamwork. Secondly, the Saudi king "said" he wouldn't lower oil prices. However, a week or two later and they are down more than $10. We held the weapons over their heads and to maintain the appearance of strength in the face of all those future terrorists over there (and for the record, 15 of the 19 9/11 hijackers were Saudis or Egyptians). So he did exactly what we said, he just didn't make a deal of it. J

You guys need to quit taking the blue pill. Search Hubbert's Peak on the net or rent Crude Awakening. Oil prices per barrel from 1947 to 2000 stayed at roughly $20 per barrel. Thats right!! 20 bucks!! Since 2000, the price of oil has increased 6 fold. Has anyone's salary here increased by that factor? The fact is, OPEC continues to lie about how much oil is left so they falsely inflate what they are allowed to produce. When oil barrel prices hit $200 then this society we live in will collapse. General Motors (second largest auto manufacturer in the world) is closing four plants at $120 per barrel. At $200 a barrel we start going hungry. The "Green Revolution" allowed food production at unparalleled speed and efficiency and our population count is built on that. That revolution is fueled by oil. Oil provides the gas that powers the equipment, petrochemicals are almost solely responsible for the fertilizer and pesticides that are used. I've read a study that says for every calorie of food you eat, you are consuming 10 calories of petroleum. Now that is scary. So enjoy $120 oil while you can and thank god you know how to fish. I'll put down my "end is nigh" sign now. J

I'm not calling you out but saying "We pulled up on a ledge" is kind of vague. I've pulled up on ledges before and pulled 6-7 pounders up but I was with a guide and he had dropped brushpiles there. That's the kind of stuff you don't just pull up on unless you have someone with some knowledge in your boat. My point is that you have to know what drop they are on: 10-15, 15-20? Then you have to idle your boat while making a zig zag pattern while keeping the drop on the GPS. Basically if you just pulled up on a ledge and slaughtered them, you need to play the lottery. J

Every frog I've used eventually fills up. Try a little glue if it bugs you. But they have to have an air release valve, otherwise it won't collapse when the fish eats it. J

I believe the bass are in post spawn mode. There are some on the ledges but unless you dedicate about a week to just pre-fishing its going to be hard to pull up on a ledge and catch fish. Just my opinion, I'd hit the main lake and primary points with the ole Carolina Rig or a jig. If you want to know specific lures or colors, go to www.kentuckylake.com and check the fishing reports. I highly recommend Dave Stewart's reports. He knows what he is talking about. Hope that helps. J

Just like Fight Club...lol I hope it doesn't necessarily have to be a pro. I'd fish with George Perry when and where he caught the record. Not to settle it once and for all but because it would be like reliving history. I would fish with one pro and that would be Ike, not for the learning but you know it would have to be fun! J

I'd recommend you try the Suffix Elite. Far less memory than the Siege. J

No offense but I am more interested in the Photoshop work. That is tight! Nice bass too though, my biggest this year was only about 4 pounds and I am a little south of you. Last weekend on a buzzbait. J

I'm interested... Who goes onto BPS and rates the lures there? I used to but it seems like the reviews are unorganized and lack coherency. I think there is a better way, I'm looking for some people to help. J

It might be that the eye is opening up under the pressure of the spinning blade. Mine was visibly open so maybe mine bent open under the pressure. From experience, depending on who and where you buy steel from, the qualities can vary wildly from batch to batch. J

Yeah, what Catt said... Anyways you don't place your thumb on the teeth, you slide it past the teeth and onto the tongue part. Once you pull the mouth open the fish usually don't fight a whole lot. The thumb scraping is just something that happens when trying to pry the mouth open or as you slide your thumb past. J

I used to live 15 minutes from KY lake but like a dope I packed up and moved to Georgetown. I loved KY lake but it really is a hard lake to fish. People think you pull up on a ledge and start casting. Totally wrong!! CJ can vouch for that. I'm close to Cave Run. I've been to Guist but Ranger is right, you pretty much have to fish on a Friday around here because by Saturday at 8am, people are anchored over the good spots. J
