Ft Lauderdale Peacocks

Featured Replies

I'm flying out of Ft Lauderdale to Jamaica on August 14th and I come back the 26th. Both days I am going to spend fishing before my flight, I leave in the afternoon and return in the morning.

Are there any spots around the airport that people can put me on so I can catch my first Peacock? I'm from Jacksonville we don't have them up here I wish we did!

Thanks for any info and private messages.

I was at Lake Ida just east of 95 and Atlantic Ave on Thursday.  I saw a bunch if Peacock fingerlings from the public dock on the east side of the lake.  Peacock catches have been pretty good recently at lake Ida.  I;m sure any canal you can find in the area of the airport have plentiful peacocks.  You need to use the right baits to, they usually don't hit worms.  Rapala stickbaits in gold and silver are good.  Small spinners, inline spinners, and crankbaits are also good.

As far as I know, there isn't a lake around the ft. lauderdale airport that holds P's. Actually, I don't think there is any body of water within city limits that has P's. The closest city to the airport to fish for them would probably be in the miramar, pembroke pines area..

I'm interested in this also. Ill be in Melbourne for Xmas and want to make a run south and try to catch a peacock bass. Ft Lauderdale is closer (safer for someone who doesn't know where they're going? ) and knowing a specific body of water would be nice too.

The griffin canal isn't that far away, there are peas in there as well as the canal that runs from markham on the north side of I-595. If you need something right right right by the airport, I can try asking a friend.

I'd head to Miami, peacocks are much more aggressive there, bigger too.  Lake Ida has them but no guarantee, not overly aggressive here and a boat is almost essential, many people use live bait for them.  They can be caught walking the shore both at the lake and adjoining canals by sight casting.   Been pretty normal making 15-20 casts at them to get a strike.

Yea not sure how far I can venture away from the airport, I'd appreciate that
