I've been having goo dluck using soft plastic baits rigged wacky style using the Falcon type weedless wacky hooks.  But man are they expensive and I keep gettign bit off by northern pike when I am fishing in the weeds.

I've been thinking that one might be able to fashion weedless wire guards quite easily and to wrap them on standard EWG hooks.

Has anyone tried doing this.  Any tips and advice?  Also where can one purchase the thin wire needed to make the wire guards.

Once you have the wire, crimp shape and tie into hook.  (tie it in like you are tying a fly and apply a drop of super glue of equivalent...)
