Upside down fish in the live well
This time of year, if I livewell a fish, I run the separate recirc pump and spray bar non stop all day, in addition to the fresh water pump on the default timer. As for the ice, did you use chlorinated tap water for the ice? That in a closed (recirc only) environment could kill them.

Tipping a Guide?
There is no difference in the food scenario. With your reasoning, the food should just cost more and the waiter paid more. Some guides own the business and can price it how they want and others work for a service and don't have that ability. (just like a waiter) If you really understand the concept of gratuity, this isn't difficult. There is a huge difference between a true guide and an on the water uber.... for the agreed upon price, you ride on the boat and have access to water/fish. Here is where the gratuity comes in- A good guide will hustle and help you read water & conditions, with tackle selection, casting, fishing theory, finding and catching better fish and in some case even more. You will usually take away knowledge that will help you find and catch in the future, in any water. The uber ride, plus a little more, is the agreed to price... the gratuity covers your appreciation for the rest. Bottom line- If you appreciate their hard work, tip them well.... if you don't, they will likely find them already be booked on the dates you want to go back out. ?

Bass Fishing Memes ***PG ONLY***
Isn't that the truth! So this week I decided to stop carrying multiple pairs of glasses & took the old guy plunge!

Tipping a Guide?
For sure, but a crisp C-note shows that the tip wasn't an afterthought or a lucky reward... if the day had been tough or that one bite missed, your winner wouldn't have had everyone else's money to give you.

Tipping a Guide?
Honestly, I let myself stay busy doing other things to keep my mind off fishing.... My lifelong best friend and fishing buddy died several years ago (terrible story- young guy, 2 kids and wife, horrific battle with cancer) and I just wasn't been able to spend time on the water peacefully since then. Just over the last month or so, it's starting to feel like it used to. I also pulled out a 75% built 9 wt fly rod that was put away during his demise. Determined to finish it and use it for the intended purpose. We were supposed to go to Argentina that spring for Golden Dorado... but he was gone a few months before. Easing back into it... Thanks for asking.

Tipping a Guide?
A crisp new, $100 bill is appropriate for a good guide. The heartfelt thank you and handshake are also very important!

think it;s fixed now... thanks!- USACE seeking comment on revision to 36CFR327.13 (firearms)

I'm guessing you must live inland, a bit. Having spent a lot of time on the San Diego/Carlsbad area, I would have called your weather just right, about 300 days a year!!- Fishing alone
About 10 years ago I though I'd eventually want a fishing partner... so the wife and I had a baby... 9 years later I have a fishing partner! I could have saved tens of thousands of dollars and hired a guide once a week. And he would do all the work! ? Just kidding- I wouldn't give him up for [insert favorite pro here] as my own personal guide. Anyone from work, fish? With your schedule, it would be nice to find a partner on the same schedule.- He's growing up!
Thanks! Hate to admit it but he got his good looks from Mom, not me. lol- Tip Top size
Ring sizes are mm and the tube sizes are measured in 64ths of an inch... You can measure the rod at the tip with a caliper and do some basic math. Almost guaranteed you'll be in between sizes so buy the next size up and with a drop of hot melt, you'll be back in business. So if you measure 0.086" you are in between 5.5/64 and 6/64 so order your top with in size 6. Alternatively, if you just broke it right at the tip, you may be able to reuse the top by heating it up and removing the pc of rod tip. Worth a quick check since it would save you time and money of ordering replacements.- How to unspool line on a spinning reel back to an empty spool?
Don't strip it and load to another spool, you won't untwist it by repeating the process... just troll it out (without a lure on it) and let it untwist a few minutes and reel it in. You can walk the bank if not in a boat, does the same thing, a little more 'manually' lol Repeat the process anytime you get a bunch of twist... you'll save a lot of money by doing this. (the line is fine, it's just twisted) Also if in a boat, you can do it in about 2 minutes... mid day when needed and not have to respool on the water.- Baitcasters at night...
Lots of ways to get there... but to shorten the learning curve to about 2 casts, just tighten the brake a hair. (before dark) I have all my reels set so loose that if you dropped the lure to the deck, it will backlash. (sorry Catt) Always have. Not that it;s right, but point being I night fish as much or more than i day fish. I know my equipment and don't try to cast 50 yds at night. My son is 9 and he night fishes with me occasionally. I set his reel so that I can cast it with no thumb. Unless you drive one into the water, it's just not an issue. So I would suggest that your reels are not set up properly or something in your set up is out of balance. (maybe baits that are too light, line too heavy, light baits on a hvy rod, etc.) Also, there is no shame in a spinning rod. It may allow you to night fish more productively.- He's growing up!
Before you know it, I'll be the retired guy, headed to the big city to visit he and his family!! ?- 23 Foot Python Swallows Woman...
Still a great sense of humor!- He's growing up!
Nice, thanks!!- He's growing up!
That's awesome! Hey- what kind of life vest is that- I'm having trouble finding one he can fish in, comfortably. I may not be lucky or unlucky, depending on your stance.... mine said he's never moving out! But if I make him leave after college he said he'll build a house in between ours and Nana's which is about 100yds away! ...lol I'm sure he'll change his mind in the teen years though!- How to detect a bite?
I bet you missed a lot! Most fish will spit out a jig pretty quickly once they feel that it's not natural. So learning when to set the hook (sooner the better) is imperative. IMO, the biggest lesson in jig fishing is not "feeling" the bite... it's learning to fish (especially the drop) with a controlled taught line on the descent, NOT TIGHT, just without slack. Your follow through of a pitch/cast can be a nice high rod tip- let the rod follow the jig down controlling the line as you go (and peel if needed to keep up depending on depth; but if you peel remember to click before you set or it's over!) When fishing the drop, often the bite will be a sudden stop in the drop or slack line when you know it's not to the bottom yest. Learning to control the line will often allow you to feel the jig thump on the back of their throat, even when on the drop and the line not "tight." A swimming pool or just some clear water is great to get the feel of it. I used to sink lawn chairs in the pool to see how things felt and reacted to pulling vs hopping over obstacles. I get about 75% of my jig fish on the initial drop and first hop. After that it's more like worm fishing as far as the bite goes. This is one of those things that's harder to describe than to do!- He's growing up!
Thanks, and yes it sure does! My in-laws warned me when he was born, to pay attention because the days can seem to drag on but the years fly by! It's so true! My wife has found a renewed desire to go out on the boat... I guess she's not ready for us to have too much "guy time" just yet! (or more likely- she's not ready to cut the cord!) Absolutely! TIme on the water is open time to listen, talk and teach.... except when they are schooling- then it's all business for him!!- Ideal place to install a 3 bank charger on my Nitro 884
He probably ran the boat in saltwater and didn't rinse it well. Regardless, any decent on board charger made in the last 20-25 years is completely submersible and can even charge while under water. (yes, I have tried it, accidentally) I would put it by the batteries and forget about it.- So I did it: I forgot to put the drain plug in.
Not even remembering as you launch? Good think I don't know you! You'd have made a liar out of me. ?- He's growing up!
So these pics are almost 6 years apart... he's eaten up with fishing and driving! I'm thinking he'll be the best fishing partner yet!! (yep, same old boat, same young driver!) - USACE seeking comment on revision to 36CFR327.13 (firearms)
