Ideal place to install a 3 bank charger on my Nitro 884

Featured Replies

Hey guys, just bought a 1999 Nitro 884.  Owner has some ancient XPS bank charger that doesn't even work anymore.  The guy had the charger installed at the very back of the hull.  It has a bunch of gunk on it, so I think that maybe water has gotten in there before and probably ruined it.  So I am thinking that I should relocate the new Minn Kota MK315 charger maybe somewhere else.  The boat is 18 feet long with a single console.  Where is a good place to put that bank charger to stay away from water? Any advice would be much appreciated for a newbie bass boat owner!!!

They're waterproof.  Generally they are installed alongside the batteries.

I've got the MinnKota MK210.  Can confirm that they are waterproof, fully submerged mine about 3 months ago when I forgot to put the plug in before launching the boat.  I don't have a Nitro, but my charger is in the back right next to my batteries.

The 3-bank charger on my nitro 896 is installed in the back where the batteries are

He probably ran the boat in saltwater and didn't rinse it well.  Regardless, any decent on board charger made in the last 20-25 years is completely submersible and can even charge while under water. (yes, I have tried it, accidentally)  I would put it by the batteries and forget about it.

Thanks everyone, I just put it where the old bank charger was and made sure it was secured.
