I currently own a Quantum Catalyst 7.0:1, on a Mojo Bass 7' MH rod. I'm looking to get another bait casting setup. I like MH, I do not have the money to buy rods for specific uses but to cover more lures and rigs, would another MH be a good idea? I'm not sure if M has enough backbone and H is too much. I fish a lot of jigs, frogs, and texas rigs. I would most likely throw 40 lb powerpro spectra braid on the reel. 

 

Any advice is appreciated, I'm semi-new to bass fishing.

It will depend on what you are going to throw with it. Are you going to use it for the same baits as the first one, and same weight. MH is a good center point for rods, but if you start getting into 5/8oz and higher jigs you may not have enough power. Same with frogs in heavy weeds and a H would do the trick. A M would work for some smaller jigs, and t-rigs.

 

This is just my personal opinion, but I would look at trying to expand a little. Not a similar setup to what you have but something that will allow you to throw a wider range of baits and different sizes. How to expand depends on the areas you normally fish.

Get the heavy, use it for top water, then use the MH for everything else. That's the way I'd do it.

I used a mojo bass mh for exactly what you listed and it's a good rod for those techniques.

As for a second setup,like Brianmd said above, I'd look at what techniques you want to expand to. A good medium moderate fast or fast setup could cover a lot that your mojo won't do as well with.

Thanks everyone, I normally never throw anything over half an ounce, if that. I do not own a boat so its rare for me to get into the deeper water. I really am trying to expand my horizons and I appreciate the advice, I'm leaning towards a medium at the moment because I don't use very heavy lures and my MH seems to be alright for frogging at the moment. 

Fast action is the most versatile....for me.  I agree about going with a HF.  Many allow you to throw 3/8 oz. although I would personally use that weight on the MH you have.  I've got a couple 6'10" Quantum rods...1 Tour Edition, 1 Superlite.  These rods really zing a 1/2 oz. jig with trailer.  ohya still has the Superlite...a $230 rod for $125.  They are well built and have good sensitivity.  BTW, the 1/4-3/4 rating is wrong on these rods.  Should be 3/8 to 1-1/4 (or 1-1/2, I forget).  That is if you want to stick with the techniques you listed.  If that is your favorite methods of fishing, then you can have 2 rods set up

 

I see you posted while I was typing.  I agree that if you aren't ever going to go over 1/2 oz. and often go lighter than 3/8 oz, then a MF is a better option than the HF.

 

EDIT:  I often throw crankbaits on a MF.  Seems to work ok, but I can't seem to catch many on a crankbait.  Prefer a spinnerbait.

And same with me, little luck on them and I normally switch to a spinner but lately I've been attempting to use some chatter baits and its done alright.
