Navionics + Humminbird 898 Question

Featured Replies

In the near future I will purchase my first lake chart software and am leaning towards Navionics + but I have a question. Can you chart a lake and keep it private or does it automatically upload the chart for public viewing when you insert the card into the computer? Lakemaster Autochart has the capability to keep the chart private but it's about the only thing I've read that's "better" than Navionics +.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

The Sonar Charts program is shared data on the Navionics server. Anyone can download the data to their Navionics+ or Navionics Hotmaps Platinum map card and it is viewable on the Navionics web site Web App.

Yes, private would be the Lakemaster AutoChart software which is the former Dr. Depth software.

Other than its viewabiltiy, Sonar Charts is free with the map software, and AutoCharts is a purchased product and is computer software to generate mapping for your 898.

"near future" applies while supplies last, since the 898c HD SI Combo has been discontinued and replaced by the 2014 model 899ci HD SI Combo.

The 898c SI Combo was replaced by the 898c HD SI so that's two versions that have been discontinued.

If you're using the pre loaded cards, Lakemaster offers more options with the bird. Including shallow water shading, target depth shading and depth offset

So if i was targeting 24 ft on a given lake i could have everything on the chart at that depth shaded a different color with a Lakemaster card?

I was leaning towards Navionics + just because you have the option to pick any lake and download that specific chart independant of region.

Is there any other way to create a lake chart with a Humminbird and keep it private other than using the Lakemaster Autochart?

If you target 24' you can shade 24' or add a range. so I can do 24'  +/- whatever 1' or 2 ' or 3' on up to 60' so set at 21' +/- 3', it will shade from 18'' to 24' I did this in simulator to give you an idea

21' +/- 3' with shallow water highlight at 2'

I have both Lakemaster and Navionics chips for my area. Navionics has more coverage and Lakemaster has more custom settings that work with the birds.

That's a pretty cool feature. Thanks for taking the time to show that slonezp.
