New Rod??

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I've used my same rod all my life and sadly it has broken...so now im going to spoil myself to a new somewhat nice rod and reel. My budget is around $150...does anyone have any suggestions??

Duckett Fishing Micro Magic, $159 @ Bass pro.  That will be my next purchase. I have heard nothing but great things on all Duckett rods.

The Daiwa Tatula rods are the lightest rods in that price range. They're plenty sensitive, and the build quality is very good. The *** *** is a little cheaper and almost as good. They're far and away the two best out in that price range, at the moment. When the ICast releases hit stores, there may be a couple more good ones.

A St. Croix Premier would be a good rod for you. Check them out!

Falcon Lowrider

The new Shimano Crucial's

I'd buy any of those in that price range

Are you saying your budget is $150 for just the rod or the rod and reel? Your title says rod but then you say you are treating yourself to a nice rod and reel with a budget of $150. If the rod budget is $150 there really isn't a way to go wrong at the price range so what you do is go to Tackle Warehouse and take a look at the rods and see what model has the look you want and go from there. I'm sure you already know what power and action as well as length you want.

Id go to your local sporting goods store or wherever you go for your fishing gear, and hold several different rods/reels and get a feel for which one feels best and will do what you want.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the OP wants the rod AND reel to be $150 total. For only around $150 dollars that is going to be a tough choice finding a high quality combo. The only one that I can think off the top of my head is the Pro Qualifier Carbonlite combo at Bass Pro Shops.

For around $120.00  St. Croix Premier, I would need more than $150.00 to better than that for me. If you look around a like new Avid would be very hard to beat for under 200 bucks, new or used.

perhaps i'm missing it, but did you want a spinning or casting set up?  If you're trying to get the whole rig for $150 i would think it would be more feasible for a spinning outfit.  either way, would still help on the suggestions to know if it's a casting or spinning combo you're looking for.

Just bought a duckett micro magic and Im blown away by it.  Great rod at 150.00$

The best rod you can buy for $150.00 is with out question. It is a Duckett Micro Magic. They will soon have the new Micro Magic Pro rods coming out and it is hard to believe they could improve on the Micro Magic line but they have done just that. The Micro Magic pro is awesome. I would buy a Micro magic but if I could wait until next month "October" I would buy a Micro Magic Pro.
