hey guys,

just a few random things ive been wondering about.

1. salt-is there any difference between the salt sold for worm making and running regular salt through a spice grinder until its a fine powder.

2. lurecraft molds-i ordered a stick mold from them that they say is not a two piece but makes round baits and you pour it through a hole in the bottom.  i was curious and bought one since it was only $10 and i wanted a 6 inch mold to go with my 4 and 5 aluminum ones.  anyone tried these.

3.  glitter- will regular craft store glitter work ok.  i tried some my son had around for arts and crafts and it seemed to work fine.

4.  colors-there is nothing you can buy at craft stores or anywhere that you can use to color worms is there.  i thought i had ordered everything i needed but forgot one color.  i suppose ill just wait till next order but i was just curious.

5. janns netcraft molds-they say you need an injector to use them.  they apear to be two piece molds that are made of hard plastic and kept together with c-clamps.  seem like a cheap alternative to aluminum molds for some of the things that i wont make that often.  anyone know abou these injector molds, if you really need one and how hard they are to use.  they basically look like a big syringe and cost about 10 bucks

6.  anyone have any tips on pouring one sided molds.  i think i just need pracice and steadier hands to have less flashing and such.

if anyone knows the answer to any of these questions your help is greatly appreciated.  tyvm to anyone who can chime in with an answer or two

anyhow thanks for all you guys help.  without it id be lost and im very happy with how things are coming along.

Well, I started off some years ago recycling used plastic baits which taught me how to pour. I would save all my used plastics in a bucket. Later on, I would separate and organize the colors, melt and pour them. When using a hot plate, I prefer to use a small aluminum pouring pot that has a lip. The aluminum will distribute the heat better and the lip will help control the pour. I am not into the plastics very much any more and pour mainly lead. If you had some lead questions, I could probably help you better in that area. I am sure there are others here that can better help you with the plastics. However, I make my most of my own jig trailers and I still use recycled plastic to make them. I save some bucks doing this. A non-boater does not have to clean up his left over plastics after fishing with me, they go into my recycling bucket. Good fishing..

table salt works but can bleach out the color of your plastic. You may need to add more dye. Grinding it is time consuming as well.

Haven't tried it but I recommend the aluminum molds since yours is only a single cavity. Making 20 baits will take you an hour. I can do it in a few minutes with aluminum molds.

This glitter likely isn't heat tolerant and will leach color into the hot plastic

I would only go with the dye you get through Del's or Lure craft.

Less cavities and more crap to hold the mold together means pouring is a slow go, go aluminum and do it right the first time

Steady hands are good but having a sharp X-acto knife to cut flash is better
