I just purchased a quantum optix reel; 5.2:1 and 2+1. 

 

Also, I got a 6'6" Shimano Sojourn SJS66M2A Medium Fast Action rod.

 

anybody use either and how have they worked for you guys?

    I have the exact same rod. I like it pretty well, and it is definitely worth the money. I have it on my abu garcia silver max.

    Soujourn isn't a bad rod at all, despite the low price.  I have a 7' heavy that I used for years, still have but I keep it for back up.  Very good friend has nothing but Van Staals, has one of them on the same heavy Soujourn rod as mine, he uses it just as often as his custom rods.
