Late Spawn

Featured Replies

This years in Indiana has been very slow in years past in the spring we could always find bass in the same spots and would get some big ones full of eggs.We had the worst winer on record this year and we could never find the big bass and the ones we did catch were not fat fish that looked full of eggs.  About 3 weeks ago we went out and it is like something clicked and we got 17 fish on KVD 2.5 and 4 really big bass the biggest 7 pounds and they were in spots the bass would spawn and looked full of eggs.  I got some big bass since and same deal big fish in spawn bed locations and look full of eggs.

Last night went fishing and the little lake that connects (has a river flowing in so I am guessing higher oxygen) has produced the last 3 big bass, and earilier in the day my brother lost a monster.  I fished the tree line on the way to the channel and didn't get a bike then went back into the little lake and got a 4 pounder off a beaver dam that looked full of eggs. I then went and fished some trees and got a 5 pounder.  On the way out I stopped and fished the beaver dam again same spot my brother lost the monster and got a 6 pounder that was huge.  I don't know that bass spawm this late but these fish sure look and seem like they have.

Maybe it's a second spawn. I've read that sometimes bass spawn twice in one year.

I can't speak for Indiana, but here the water hasn't been as hot as normal for summer.  If you are experiencing the same thing, you may simply be catching bass that have fed exceptionally well this summer.  Most of my fish here in SE VA lately have been chunks.  I suppose it's in the realm of possible, but I would seriously doubt that bass would spawn in Indiana in August.

I can say, it has been a very strange spring/ summer... It just seemed like it pushed the spawn by 6 weeks or so... It's been a very different year, no doubt....
