Emerald Matrix blank

Featured Replies

Any rod builders have any experience or comments about this American Tackle blank?

I haven't fished one, but they do look cool.  You can also get complimentary woven handles for them if you want to complete that look.  The general population at RBO seem to like it.  I would probably make a moving bait rod with it... not a worm or jig rod.  They are an intermediate modulous blank.  You have lots of options, artistically speaking, that you don't have with other blanks.  I've seen some really neat pics of finished out Matrix rods.

I recently wrapped one of the crankbait models. The blank is beautiful but not very functional. Mine is a medium heavy but it has no back bone. The bend is pretty constant from tip to the very butt of it. I"m not happy with mine other than to just look at it.

it sure does have a back bone i have the fly rod and its got pleanty of fish woopin power

I have built one on the AMMBC844 MedHvy Fast. The customer wanted a t-rig rod, used a SCRSD-16H Holographic reel seat with stock cork rear grip and fore grip. This was before the new Matrix seats. I used the HZTT series Holographic Guides and Tip in TiChrome. This was back after Cascade closed, and I hadn't moved on to St.Croix blanks. I wasn't impressed with the final look of the rod, but the customer thought it was cool. It had as much backbone and quick tip action as I had seen at the time in any of the AllStar, and Rainshadow blanks I had built on. I never heard back from him he had moved out of state.

That moderate action is almost like a glass rod. You will feel the flex to the grip...
