I usually use Power Pro 15lbs. braid on my spinning reels. I tried Sufix 832 20lbs. braid this time on one of my reels. I've never had problems with the Power Pro and haven't had any problems with it on my current reel that I respooled this year the same time I spooled the Sufix on my other reel.

 

 

Well, the Sufix 832 seems to get wrapped up around the 1/4 top tip of my rod quite often. I don't know why.

It honestly just may be wind, or how you're casting. I can't say that has ever happened to me without it being my own fault. Usually it happens to be when I rip a bait through stuff and it created slack or it comes flying out of the water.

I think when braid gets twisted, it doesn't act like mono does, it wraps itself around the rod tip. To me, a guy who only uses braid, it's the thing that bugs me most about braid.

It rarely happens win my other spinning rod which has Power Pro and that my bro is fishing at the same time I am. So the weather conditions are the exact same.

Just a thought, but are the actions of the rod exactly the same?  If one has a faster tip than the other, that could be part of your problem.

Exact same rods. Both reel's bails closed manually. One has a Shimana Stradic Ci4+ and the other has an older Shimano Stradic FJ.

4 carrier vs 8 carrier. The latter being softer and more limp. My experience anyways.

^^This was my first thought as well. PP has some body to it especially when new. As it breaks in it's more apt to wind knot. It's the biggest trade off with braid and the softer the braid the more apt it is to happen.

I'd think 832 being stiffer because its coated would be less apt to do that tho

832 is softer out of the box than PP due to a factory coating of goop on the PP.  Tip wrap is pretty common when fishing braid once it gets soft.  The only way to completely eliminate it is switch out your tip top guide with one that sheds the braid when it tries to  wrap around it, rather than catch it like most tip top guides.

I agree that 832 is softer out of the box than PP although I am not familiar with the newest grade of PP.

Limp braided line, short strikes and windy days are a recipe for wrapped guides.  My guess is that the 832 is limper than the Power Pro.
