The Gambler Ugly Otter has become my new favorite "beaver bait."  

 

Ive discovered a couple of things with this particular bait design.

 

1.  If you pop it just right, you can get the big tail flapping for a short time during a straight retrieve

2.  Cutting the middle seams of the two smaller appendages will get them kicking during a straight retrieve, but will often get hung up on the larger tail.

3.  By pinching off the two smaller legs totally, a straight retrieve will get the big tail kicking like a Hyper Freak very easily without any extra effort.

 

 

This is new to me, only because Ive only ever used this thing as a bottom bouncer.
