Honestly take a look at Seibert Outdoors jigs, it's a forum sponsor and all jigs are hand tied. He's basically giving them away at the price he sells his work for!

Pro qualifier would have been my first choice, I love all mine and they get abused.

Spinnerbaits are my favorite lure to throw and my set up is a 7' medium heavy veritas paired with a 7:1 pro qualifier and 17lb inviz x. I have thrown one on my glass powell diesel cranking rod and I personally didn't like it.

I throw one every time I go fishing, they are by far and away my favorite lure to fish and they flat out catch em' for me.

Lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits work well for me

Depending on how heavy of rig you are throwing and the depth of water you may need to step lithe rod up to a heavy action.
