Random Tackle And Organizing Tips

Featured Replies

I figured it would be cool for everyone to kinda contribute to a thread giving random tackle and organizing tips so i'll start.  I'm anxious to see what everyone else has to say.

Take the plastic tubing that often comes on spinnerbait hooks when you buy them, cut to size and put on a straight shank hook for an instant trailer hook.

Use plastic cornerbead for drywall as lure hangers on the underside of your boat locker doors.

I cut out the cardboard for lures, hooks, weights etc, and then i line the bottom of that tackle compartment with it so i know where things go.  Sometimes i also use a empty peanut butter jar to store hooks and weights because its easy and you can use the lid as a tray.  also i keep one of those easy reach grabber arm things on my boat at all times.

And if you don't have any packets, put a little uncooked oatmeal in a small compartment.

Never heard this one before, thanks

I thread my hooks on safety pins in my stowaway boxes so they're not all getting tangled up with each other

Also, for those of you that use stowaway boxes, and have had the dividers loosen up, causing tackle to "run together" - frustrates me to no end - I figured out if you put a drop of superglue on a piece of paper, then dip the end of a toothpick in it, then dab the toothpick onto the center of the bottom of the loose divider, it keeps it in place, but it's not so much glue that you can't pull it out if you really need to

For your big expensive baits like swimbaits and stuff line the top and bottom of a box with a good dense foam. It will keep the baits from moving around and banging into each other and messing up your custom paint job :P Also you can like like a old soft or hard handgun case sine they come lined with foam. They work amazing and it is the best thing I have found yet for those big expensive lures. I see people who make those hanging boxes with the threaded rod and snaps. Those are ok and I actually made one but then I have to snap hook covers on all the hooks and it does not stop them from actually banging into each other. With the foam you generally dont even need hook covers on them but I still do.

Also a CD case/book works great for spinner baits and such.

O and old pill bottles or something for things you might need like tooth picks or q-tips ect.
