I'm going to be in Luray and the  Skyline drive area soon and was wondering if anyone had any recent outings at either Pelham or Anna. Which would be best for September or any other bass spots along Skyline drive. Thanks for any input.

Of course, Pelham is much smaller so if  you have a kayak or a 9.9 motor setup you may want to hit Pelham.

My vote would also be for Anna , the Anna river arm should be getting pretty exciting right about now , we have had a few cooler nights which usually groups up the shad there , if you go , focus your attention on some of the wider coves that have a fair amount of grass at the mouths , if you can find ones that have stumps and lay downs mixed in , even better !

I'm heading there for vacation next week , looking forward to less big boats and jet skis now that the children are back in school , should be a great time !!!

BO, are you towing a boat through the Skyline trail?

 

I've stopped and wet a worm at a few of the ponds along Skyline, but never caught a bite.

 

Anna's big water.  Pelham, not so much.  Quite a bit different.

I fished it many years ago and then it was a hassle just getting the permits.

The boat had to be inspected by the police.

Don't know what the deal is now, not interested in going back.

Access to the water was a lot better than it is now too.

Caught more catfish than bass on spinnerbaits and plastic worms.

I'd opt for Anna over Pelham.  I live in the neighborhood adjacent to Pelham and it is a body of water I haven't put the time in to figure out.  It is electric only and a permit is needed for the boat as well as the angler that is obtained through the town. The new ramp off 522 is much improved over the one off Mt Run Rd but is very shallow.  There are some nice bass caught as well as crappie and catfish.  As others have said Anna is a much bigger body and should start fishing much better  and with less pleasure boat traffic. If your hauling a boat it's not worth all the hassles involved with permitting and electric only to fish Pelham.

I'll be boatless and hiring a guide. One guide mentioned the potomac river . Depending where we stay I may have to resort to some local pond near the rental house.

Has anyone had any luck fishing for smallmouth bass on the shenandoah river?

I stumbled upon that site the other day. Thanks for posting it though. I'm going to try to check them out when I get there. We are staying in Culpeper but will be traveling around the area.
