Florida Ponds

Featured Replies

Hey, I need an extremely quick answer,I'm in Jacksonville Florida for a few days and I'm gonna fish some of the retention ponds, I was wondering does anyone have any suggestions on what baits i should use (hard baits, soft plastics, etc.)

Weightless senkos, flukes, and trick worms fished slow. Watermelon red, black or Junebug. These will catch fish anywhere, anytime, from coast to coast.

No need to over complicate pond fishing.

Have fun and watch out for those gators.

I used to fish with senkos, trick worms, brush hogs, and crankbaits. I caught plenty of fish with those baits out of retention ponds.

Senkos are boring and super slow. throw a drop shot or something instead. Or go with some beaver baits and tubes for plastics. Hollow body frogs and buzz frogs. Maybe a shallow running square bill. Some hollow belly swimbaits and a chatter bait. If it is any good I am sure that stuff will catch something. Also you can do things besides hurry up and wait for your senko to finally hit bottom. That's just me though.

In FL ponds you can take your pick with a variety of soft plastics, and each can work. Survey the water, and look for cover. Focus your attention to those areas. This time of year, a hollowbody frog will work well.

Bay Meadows Golf Course ponds!! Just don't get caught :)
