6"6. Med Heavy Fast

Featured Replies

What's a 6"6 med heavy fast st crois triumph good for and what gear ratio reel to match.

I'm trying to put together rod and reel set ups for different stuff.

I realize it's a cheapo but u have to start somewhere.

For anything that has one hook and weighting between 1/4 and 1/2 oz.

I personally just bought a duckett micro magic 7 MH, Its the best rod I have ever used personally, but I will say that I have never heard one bad thing about  st Croix rods, I think they are great rods based on my research!!  Hope this helps.

It can handle a bit of everything. Put a 6.X:1 or 7.X:1 on there and you're good to go.

I like a 6'6" for bank banging. Easier to roll cast and pitch. T-rig, jigs. ....etc. a 6'6" mh will pretty much do anything.

I agree with kickstand454 and ontariofishguy. I've had a st croix avid with that action/power and lenght for twelve years and in its heyday was a worm/jig set up with a 6:?:1 reel. An old greeny curado. It has been through a lot and is now retired to my truck, which I keep in the cab to fish any fishy looking spots that I might come across in my daily travels. It now throws whatever is in my truck tackle bag and does fine. Great starter rig!!
