Hey guys,

I'm a huge fan of Sunline Fluoro, so I bought some of their Fx2 braid for frogs/buzzbaits.

Holy Shite, it's the loudest braid I've ever used. So loud. What gives? I don't think I ever noticed it before when I used power pro...

Are you using the same rod (guides)? 

It's a little rough, not as smooth as the likes of smack down, 832,or SS8. It seemed about the same as original power pro to me.

Noisy braid has never really bothered me,

to be quite honest. I suppose it is all in the

ear of the fisher.

 

That said, I notice it, but it isn't bothersome

to my ear. I use regular Power Pro. I'd say

Sufix Performance Braid was a little noisier.

I could be wrong (it has happened a time or two) but more noise = more friction to my thinking.  I don't worry about it if I know my guides will take the wear.

I guess I have been fishing braid so much I am immune to the sound.....

The first reel I ever put regular Power Pro on is a Daiwa Tournament SS spinning reel.  The noise was disturbing; it made the reel sound like it was rubbing or scraping.  I took off some of the Power Pro and put on some Suffix 832.  It's less noisy, but still sounds like the reel is a piece of junk. 

 

On my other spinning and bait casting reels, the noise is not bad enough to be bothersome.  Must be something about the line roller on that Daiwa spinning reel.  What reel(s) are you experiencing the noise with?

I experienced this with Berkley Fireline and metal guides.

Suffix 832, Spiderwire EZ Braid, and Spiderwire Stealth cure this problem for me.

I was disappointed. Fireline was never like this before.

I've used it on two Croixs, mojo and triumph, and a Lew's Tournament Pro. A majority of the sound is coming from the guides, a little bit from the reel as well. I'm probably going to buy Smackdown tomorrow and swap it out and see. 

Fireline is always noisy when it's new. After a few hours it softens a bit, but is still loud. FX2 is a pretty coarse weave. I think this possibly helps when you're fishing pads as it adds to the sawing effect cutting through the vegetation. 8 strand braids are generally quieter, but if you use those horrible recoil guides anything sounds super noisy! I find 8 strands too soft and limp generally. 832 isn't a bad compromise, but my fav at the moment is Sunline Superbraid, which is a 4 strand, but relatively soft and quiet while still having the increased toughness of a 4 strand. It's like an improved version of original power pro.

And after putting regular 40# PP on my XT, I'd say it was noisier than the 40# Sufix on my STX.    Then again, maybe it will quiet with use.  I don't remember Performance being noisy when I first put it on.

Dont know the test Darren referring to with the Performance Braid but 20# and below is 4 carrier, above that 6. So when comparing 40# to 40# you compare a 4 carrier PP to 6 carrier PB.

I have 20# in PP and PB, so 4 vs 4, by far PB is noisier. On one certain set-up SC Premier rod and supremeXT reel it PB was awful and had to switch line.
