Is Fishing Good This Time If Year In Yuma, Az?

Featured Replies

I'm pretty new to fishing, just got started about 4 months ago. Are the bass active at this time of year in southwest Arizona? When do they get to the point where you just about have to put the hook in their mouth to snag them, then when do they get back into a feeding frenzy again?

They stay active for a long time down there since it's so warm. You can catch them in November and sometimes Decemeber even on topwaters. The water rarely gets cooler than mid 40s.

You are close to Imperial reservoir, a Colorado river impoundment and waterfowl reserve.

The lake is full of bass and bull rushes, do you have a boat? If shore fishing look for irrigation pumps with a cove and rip rap (broken rocks) wing dam. Bass like these areas year around.

Soft plastics, worms Senko's and Ika's are all good. If you have a frog rod work the bull rush edges and weed mats with a Snag Proof frog? The split shot rig with a live big night crawl tail or nose hooked is a sure bet, however catfish, red ears sunfish and bass eat live night crawlers. Use a #2 mosquito hook (Owner) or similar and a small BB round split shot.

You can also use this for soft plastic worms nose hooked using the weedless wacky #2 hook.

Thank you guys for the tips. Tom, I don't have a boat only a kayak for fishing. I have not yet hit the dam only the lower river, Mittry Lake, canals, Senators Wash, and some of the smaller newer lakes and ponds they have made here. I will hit the dam soon. I have a few weedless frogs and a stick that I've thrown them on before, don't know that it's a frog stick though. It's a 7ft medium heavy.
