Heading Over To Lake George In January

Featured Replies

I will be heading over to lake George this January and possibly some of the small lakes south of George off the river system. ..I've never been there and not exactly sure what to expect... so far I understand that's is a pre spawn time and the springs on the wset side have warmed water and the point on the SE side is promising...any other suggestions or advice around temps..clarity..depths..structure...holdino patterns..lures or areas to check out would be greatly appreciated. . Many thanks.

you got the basics.the bite will be dependent on the weather.get a few warm days and things can get good .extended cold spell and you'll have to hunt.salt run will not be as affected because of the springs .If you flip dexter and woodruff and the river around that area will hold some fish.north to ocklawaha mouth will hold schoolers at times. If we happen to have a warm spell prespawners will move up into the eel grass.10'' worms and big easy will get u bit.clarity in G will depend on the wind direction and strength. find clean water.Best advise :get familiar on idle zones, manatee zones, they will pop you.

Being george is a fairly flat in structure, are winter holding patterns along the main channel dividing the lake or do they just hold on cover near small structural changes withing the lake itself? Thanks again...I love this site.

I have fished George several times and caught a few bass. One time I was disappointed because I was running aground within 50 yards of the bank and another time the hydrilla was so thick near the south end boat ramp I could hardly run my motor. We have had a wet spring and summer so maybe the water level will be up when you fish there. Since you will be in the area I would recommend Rodman Reservoir as a better fishery.

Not sure specifically when you're coming down, but the St. Johns is really high right now. Fishing Beresford and so much current moving in the few spots I've been.

yea eufala in winter is main lake ledge jigging, or drop shot, or cranking. you should wait until early march and get on the grass bite. so much more fun to me

There's another fellow I know of that goes by the handle Hookn1 on some forums I read. He's from Louisiana too. Hmmm.

I'll be there in three weeks...looking forward to figuring something out...have done a lot of homework and am expecting all that work to be chunked in the wind once I get on the water for half a day.. feeling good with some starting points and alternative areas within my plan... I appreciate all the help from this page...I will share everything I learn before the end of the month..
