    Start with factory settings and then see if you need to adjust any of the noise or clutter filters.  If you are picky about sens then it may need adjusted during the day as you encounter different water conditions.  If you are fishing deep water setting the upper and lower limits can give you a better water column.  I also like to turn off the amplitude scope.
