Hey Flechero

Featured Replies

Last week, we were down at a local lake doing the local news shoots for the Jr TBF champs. One of the kids, Delainey, has a sponsor named "Oceangirl".  They are a rod company.  The main builder was there and he gave all of us a quick seminar on Oceangirl rods.

Well after about 1/2 hr of spiel and Q&A, he noticed my rod that you built sitting on Stratosdadri's deck.  He was all eyes man, spinning, inspecting, all he said was , "very well made..."

I think he was really blown away.

I have gotten LOTS of comments on that set-up and it has been a very good all around rod for me.  Fresh to salt, she performs excellent.

Just a little feedback for you.

I will remember a pic for you one of these days, I swear, problem is I have been pretty much nocturnal lately and the pics would not do it justice.  Soon though, I promise.

That's cool. That reminds me. Fletch, can you email me the picture of your cork work. The one with all the rod handles in it. I am making a rod for someone and I need some ideas. Thanks.

LBH,

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. It's always fun to look over someone else's work. I have only gotten to see the work of a few other custom guys but I alway learn something from them, no matter what kind of rod it is.

Glad it's a performer for you... Looking back on it, I think I accidentally preloaded the mojo twice. ;) ...lol

Fluke,

I think this is the one you want:

Exactly, Thanks. I am going to do something like the one with the Black and Blue EVA but with a full grip. I'll be building it on another SCIV.

That will be sharp!!  Please don't forget pics of that one!

It must be the black and blue EVA, or Flechero's mojo, but my Flechero rod (with black and blue EVA) only catches big fish.

Keith, more pictures coming if I can get my hands on them.

Sorry I didn't mean to hijack the thread.

No hijack here, you mentioned the handles.  ...lol  Looking back on it, my PB smallie did come on that pictured rod with the blk/blu accents...  Hmm... I may have to use it as my primary rod this weekend, now that I know the mojo is in the foam!!   ;)

Good bruising is like the bass thumb...  it's proof!  ...lol

Great Kudos on the rod build.  But what is Oceangirl? And I think it is awesome that Delainey when to the championship as 1 of 2 girls.

Oceangirl is the name of an up and coming rod company.  They are working with the women's side of bass fishing, catering to the needs of the female angler as far as design and build go.

They sponsored Delainey this year and set her up with a series of hand made rods.  This is their niche.  No rack rods, all hand built.

A cool note.  The builder wasn't there the day of the news coverage to deliver the rods, Delainey already had them.  He came all the way down to explain to the group gathered , exactly what goes into the design and build of their rods.  It was literally, a lakeside tech session with one of the builders himself.  Not somet6hing you see from a company every day.  Of course they were there to wish the Jr's "good Luck" like the rest of us too but I was impressed with the individual attention given.  Pretty cool.

Getting the thumbs up from this class of people was worth mentioning to Flechero seeing as how this is his hobby and passion, I'm sure he appreciates it.

Oceangirl  is truly a complete concept targeted in getting, keeping and providing the tools; rods, reels, clothing, support and much more to young girls to WBT Pro Women Anglers.  Owner John "Corky" Smith, and his team including WBT angler and Pro Staff Captain Darla Bardelli & Kelly back in the office have made a huge impact in the young girl and womens fishing world. After talking with them I could see their passion to get young girls involved with fishing as well as becoming active in the take me fishing program and other honest family projects. Long before Delainey had won the State Championship and rights to go to the National Guard World Championship OceanGirl was in the works of sponsoring her based on her fishing as well as her help with C.A.S.T. for Kids and other areas of fishing beside her performance at the scales come weighin time.

Since this thread is tackle making time to stick to the topic, the rods. Head over to the website to get all the details but after all the looks, shakes, bends can I give that rod a try last week in Arkansas looks like they may need to  expand the line to include some rods for DADS, Gramps and uncles but in a bit darker shade. ;)

My hats off to the crew over at OceanGirl for getting kids involved with fishing and a special thanks for their support given to Delainey.

Sounds like a classy operation.  (Pink blanks are always in demand... there are threads year round over on RBO about them.)
