Electrical Question For You Guys

Big rain storm hits Richmond and the circuit feeding the outlets along the back wall of the first and second floors of the house plus the porch connection snaps off at the circuit breaker box.

Seems water had gotten into one of the two flood lights illuminating the front of the house as part of the Christmas decorations and caused the circuit to pop off.

I unplugged the two flood lights and flipped the circuit breaker back on and all is OK.

I threw away the two flood lights and their stands as their shorting out in the rain caused the fuse to snap off.

Question: In your opinion, are the extension cord and timer that were feeding the two flood lights OK to use?

I don't want to plug in either and have them blow the circuit again.

Thanks for your help.

The cords and timer are probably fine, just make sure you leave them in the house to dry out and you should be ok.

The water was the bad player in this whole thing.

If the timer is rated for outdoor use, and has a cover over the face, then it's probably ok.  The same goes for the cord, if it is an outdoor cord its good.  Try to find a dry location to put the timer.

I agree. Electricity is lazy and hits the weakest point as hard as it can... the water in your flood light fixtures.

Stored the extension cord and timer in the attic and plan to use it next December.

Thanks for all the feedback. Appreciate it.
