Hey Guys,

I am planning a fishing trip this spring to southern Maine (cabin on China lake). I was curious, what time (Week/Month) do you think would be the most ideal to fish? Right now the plan is to fish a Thursday to Sunday. Any input on the conditions of that area are much appreciated.

Just like every other lake in Maine, or probably anywhere, the best time I find is April and May. Less boat traffic, more active fish, and a chance to catch a PB pre-spawn giant. Jerkbaits and white chatterbaits are home run hitters. A lot of rocks and points to fish.

May is an amazing month for bass fishing in Maine. The lures MainelyBASS mentioned work well in the spring. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits can produce as well. I myself am a Jig fisherman. Without a doubt I have caught more big bass in May on Jigs then anything else. China Lake is an amazing fishery. Giants swim there. There also are a bunch of other lesser known bodies of waters near there that have huge bass in them as well that don't receive the attention that China Lake does.

Thanks for the input! It is going to be tough deciding which lakes to fish the 4 days we are going to have.  I will be returning in July for a full week, but obviously want to take full advantage of the few days I will have in May.

I havent been up there in May, nor have I been to China lake. However, I typically go to Miane for a week in late August. The fishing is always great for me that time of year, alot of 5lbers. I dont think you can go wrong with either time frame. Maine is an awesome state to fish.

May was always my best month on china for big fish and big numbers

Caught my pb largie there on mothers day 2004...a 7.2 on a ghost minnow LC slender pointer

Got a 6.1 smallie there three days afternthe largie...same bait!
