I see a lot of love on here for the CarbonLite, however I dont see a whole lot about the Extremes.  I personally love the 2 extremes I have, enough to get a 3rd when they were on clearance for $60 a few months ago. I have not used a CarbonLite, so I cant comment on them.  I find it interesting that Bass Pro has 2 rods in the $99 price range.  What are the differences between these rods? For those of you all who have used both, which do you prefer? 

For sensitivity I prefer the extreme. For weight I prefer the carbonlite. Seeing as weight isn't a concern of mine, I have three extremes and one carbonlite. I have, however, gotten away from purchasing BPS rods and reels so I am not familiar with their current production models.

The Extremes are moderately fast, light tipped, tough as nails but clumsy rods where as the Carbonlite actions are more like a normal fast action rod.  Weight and balance has been a problem with the Extremes but the new to 2015 Extremes are very lightweight and balanced (think Veritas) thanks to a change in the blank to thinner walls and use singled footed guides for last 3 guides instead of double like previous Extreme.  The new 2015 Carbonlites are freakishly light weight rods.  They're amazing rods.

 

I'm a fan on the H powered Extremes for throwing big moving baits due to their soft slower loading tip and 2 oz rating, but I'd go with the new Carbonlites for just about everything else.

My main Rod is an Extreme 6'6' MH.  I use it for everything and I love it.  I like the new generation Extreme and will be getting one at Spring sale.

I have had at one time or another both casting and spinning of each rod. For both spinning and casting I prefer the fuller handle of the cork on the Extreme, probably because of my gorilla hands. Just feels more comfortable for me. Personally the sensitivity is about the same but maybe give a slight edge to the Carbonlite because of its weight. You can not go wrong with either of these rods, and if you wait until the spring fishing classic each can be had for around $80. I plan on swapping my 6'6" M/F Carbonlite for an Extreme of the same size in the future. I use it as my jerkbait rod but like I said above, I prefer the thicker cork handle of the Extreme.

For me, lightness is a concern, so it is the 

Carbonlite series all the way. Whenever I 

visit BPS, I try to pick up rods to compare 

and ... just because. 

 

Never was a fan of the old hump grip, and 

to me, the Extremes were tip-heavy, as 

compared to the Carbonlites.

 

But they're fine rods as everyone says. It is 

all about your preferences.

 

Now I'm hearing really good things about the 

new white Carbonlites. And I'm not happy about

it. Just means I might have to buy one. Sheesh.

In your hand, the difference is astounding. The Carbonlites are sooo light, they make the Extreme's feel pounds heavier.

The new Extremes are significantly lighter.  A guy brought one out to let me see and feel it before Christmas.  I will be getting one

I went to Bass Pro today and looked at both the CarbonLites and Extremes, and the new CarbonLites are crazy light.  But to me the lightness isnt a huge deal. My first 2 baitcasting rods are both Extremes from 12-13 years ago and still going strong.  I am considering a CarbonLite, but I wanna see how the reviews are. I am also considering getting one of the older models of Extreme or CarbonLite, if they are on clearance, but right now, at the Bass Pro HQ in Springfield, all the old Extremes and CarbonLites are still on the rod holders with all the new ones.

My first "real" bass rods were extremes and I really liked them. I eventually moved up to st croix but would recommend extremes to anyone looking for a good value setup. I would buy them for myself.
