I picked up this 870 a little while ago used for a good price but it's seen better days. Mostly it's the slug barrel actually it's all it is other then the faded stock but that adds character. I've been debating on what to do about the barrel and possible the whole gun.

Everything on the gun works and it shoots the cheap Winnie slugs the best. I just like to tinker and was thinking of re bluing or parkerizing the barrel or even cerakote or dipping the whole gun. Or just leave it who knows. It's my deer and coyote gun so it gets used and abused.

Do you think it's still safe to use? That's a lot of pitting right on the chamber. I know they're pretty thick metal there, but a slug barrel is going to have a lot of pressure there when fired.

Yeah it's not that deep I have put about 50 slugs threw it 3" Winchester super x some 00 buck as well.

X2 If you're really serious about it though, you can buy barrels pretty cheap on some of the gun auction sites.

Super easy to use.... near idiot proof.   Just get that little aerosol spray bottle kit.   A gun with that much "character"  is probably a good candidate for a camo finish, but if you don't like that idea they do have parkerized grey and other choices that will do wonders filling and minimizing some of that character.

 

Finish is incredibly durable and protective...  cheap too.

Unless the ejector breaks. Then it's off to a GOOD smith or back to Remington for a fix. I could never figure out why Remington used, and continues to still use a riveted in ejector. Mossbergs 500's and 590's use one that is held in by a screw that any monkey could change. Heck even the el-cheapo Savage-Stevens 320's that Wal-Mart is selling now, use a screw secured ejector.

For what you could pick up a used barrel for, that one would get trashed. As far as the rest of the gun, have you thought about have it hydro-dipped? They look awesome when done in a nice camp pattern..

Yeah I've considered dipping it I do hydro dipping already on my free time I got a nice predator skull patern to dip my coyote gun with just been waiting till I change the scope and do some stock work on it after season.
