Team Lews Rods / Good Md Crankbait Rods

Featured Replies

Has anyone used these rods yet?  Looking at the TLCC70MM. Also looking at a dobyns champion 704/705cb  either glass or regular. Cannot decide what I want to purchase yet.  Ive got can get some money off of dobyns, lews, purefishing, and some shimano stuff so I'm looking at those brands.

I have the Champion 704CB and a Team Lews. (In garage now and I think it is a 6'6 M/M.

I have used the Champion for cranks and LC Pointer 78s and 100s with a Daiwa TD-Z and love it. It launches a. Medium crank effortlessly and also can fling a Pointer or Vision.

Haven't used the TEAM Lews much yet but I am so far not impressed with it. For the $79 I paid for it, I'm satisfied. If I had paid $150 I would be very unhappy. As I see it, I will let my brother, the Destroyer, use it when we fish. I have a Daiwa CV-Z 105 on it and it tosses 1/4-3/8 spinnerbaits well. It just does not have the "it" factor.

Another possibility that's better is the Tatula rod in m/l for $114 from Amazon (shipped). Very nice looking rod .

But I like the Champion best of those.

I don't have the cranking rod in the Team Lews HM85 rods, I have a ML spinning rod but I feel I got the rod at a steal for what I paid. It has Fuji KR guides, my complaint with Dobyns is they use a cheap Kigan guide, for a rod that price they should have Fuji and nothing else but that is me. Not only are they K series guides but Alconite inserts, and depending on what line you are using it may be a good thing. I find that cranking rods are all similar, if rod "A" has a moderate taper and rod "B" has a moderate taper, then the only thing that will be different is the look and ergonomics which is the reel seat, grip material, and balance. Dobyns rods are known for great balance so that could be a deal maker right there. Don't foget the Loomis, the CBR is a really good rod but I'd opt for a CBR 845, the 843 is too soft, I think you are looking at Dobyns and the Team Lews as both have similar ratings.

I bought a Team Lews 6'6" mm cranking rod last week and the same rod your looking at Saturday. It should arrive Thursday. The rod reeks quality, it's Light, sensitive, cast great and is very comfortable in my hand with a Tourny Pro on it. I'm using 15# CX. I've caught 7 bass with it so far. 3 # being the biggest. The rod has been nothing short of awesome in every way.
