Swivels

Featured Replies

Any suggestions on the size of swivel I should get for cramkbaits. Fishing in 10-20 feet of water usually with varied visibility through the year.

I try to go with the smallest one possible or not at all. I've found it does mess somewhat with my lures. If you use jerkbaits, don't use them. Messes with the presentation.

Why would you use a swivel at all? What does it do for you?

I've found some baits float a little too much for me. In cold water, Yamamoto Jerkbaits float in my waters and the added weight of the swivel makes it sink. And other from that and little georges, I don't use them.

I only use a swivel if I am using an inline spinner or spoon.

I use snaps, yes, no swivels.

A swivel will help reduce line twist with an inline spinner but it won't eliminate it.  I use the smallest I can without it going thru the top guide.

I use swivels (duolocks too) a lot more in freshwater than I do in salt.

You would be defeating the purpose going with the swivel. Instead, carry a small spool of solder wire. Wrap a few turns around the shank of the front treble and you can adjust your suspension/sink/float rate quite easily that way, without affecting the plugs action. All suspending jerkbaits will either suspend, sink or float, depending on the water temperature. No one make/model can be guaranteed to perform in all water temps.
