Carbonlite For Jigs - 6'9Mh/xf Or 7' Mhf

Featured Replies

which of these would be ideas for jigs? mostly 3/8 and 1/2 tho i did pick up a couple 3/4oz on sale.

It depends on where you're fishing the jigs and what kind of line you intend to use. 6'9" is a nice length for casting finesse jigs or making short pitches but the extra fast action isn't the best to use if you are going to us braided line. I also think the 7' MH-F is more versatile as you can use most single hook baits and line types plus the added length makes for a longer cast, you just need to see which one addresses your needs better.

thanks. did some more research and think im gonna go with the 7'. my local basspro still has plenty of new and old carbonlites so im gonna go with one of those

I used the 7' MH/F for jigs before I got my St Croix Rage. It was more than adequate.

awesome! is there any issues with braid in the micro guides on this rod? not sure if im gonna go with braid or a copoly

I've been using a 6'9" Micro Carbonlite for Carolina Rigs and jigs for nearly 2 years without any trouble.  I find that it is more then adequate for nearly every jig I throw.  I had a 7' MH Carbonlite but recently sold it because I never used it anymore.  I throw 3/8 oz-1/2oz football jigs, 1/4oz-3/8oz finesse jigs, and 3/4oz tungsten weights on my Carolina rigs and when using 14lb fluoro I don't have an issue driving hooks or loosing fish.

The 7' rod will work just fine but for some reason I found myself always using my 6'9" when I had both.  I don't miss my 7' and am glad I picked up another 6'9".  I find that its long enough to make long casts for dragging a football jig or carolina rig but its also short enough to comfortably pitch and skip jigs under docks.

Never used the micro guide version.

I throw 3/8th jigs on all my 6'9" MH/F rods.  When I go 1/2 and up it feels a little much for those rods to handle.  The 7' was a good choice.

I fish jigs on a 7' MH Carbonlite with 17lb flouro on a Curado 200I.  The rod has worked well for four years.
